Dear Karen,

Thank you for writing to Youth2Youth. You sound like you are really worried, have you thought about telling your boyfriend your concerns? If you are worried that you are pregnant, you can obtain a pregnancy test from your local Family Planning Clinic or buy one at your local pharmacy. You could also try the Brook Helpline on 0800 0185 023, who give advice to young people on sexual matters, as well as being able to tell you the location of your nearest Brook Advisory Centre, where you can obtain a free pregnancy test.

It is very unlikely that you have become pregnant, because a man's sperm is killed when it comes into contact with air. However, if some of the sperm from the man's penis reaches the woman's vagina, there is a small chance that you could have become pregnant. If you have any more enquiries then please feel free to email again.

Yours Sincerely,

Youth2Youth
